The new content in this collection comprises not only the three remastered editions of the classic Devil May Cry games, but also three newly-created add-ons, called Episodes, that are fixed versions of the original game's episodes. Each episode (there are four for the first game, The Stolen Powers, and three more for Devil May Cry 2 and Devil May Cry 3) takes place in a stylized, hand-drawn fight-set, where some of the characters we know from the original games return and where Dante is ambushed by the enemy group under control of warlord Vergil. These boss battles are presented as separate levels and players must shoot through them like in any other Devil May Cry game, though a few enemies are locked on until their movements have been met with a critical success. Unlike the Devil May Cry original, there are no enemies to shoot enemies but instead, and these are pretty similar -- they've been heavily scripted. Not only is it a strange change, for a fighting game to borrow from shmups, but the lack of variation, when you can't really play a move 37 times in a row, makes it difficult to fall back on memorization or technique to make sure that it's not the enemy system that's holding you back. Vergil isn't really that bad as an opponent, but battles with Nero can occasionally be brutal, and more often than not, a bit confusing when the camera would often go to Nero's perspective to a point where it's hard to make out what was happening.
