The movie initially had a limited-run theatrical release starting on March 11th, 1989, the day of its premiere. It was a financial success and grossed $8 million in its opening weekend. At the time of its release, according to Paramount Pictures, the film's running time was 93 minutes. It was released on VHS on May 24th, 1989 and on Beta in the VHS Release Special edition in November, 1989. It was edited on VHS to give the impression of an 86-minute running time.
